It should come as no shock to anyone that with the change to Common Core, we should expect to see more technology in the classroom. It's embedded everywhere in Common Core. And although the standards bring many conflicting opinions amongst parents, teachers and politicians, one thing that we can agree on is that technology is an aspect of education that should not be overlooked.
Gone are the days of fording the river with your oxen just to kill 30 minutes, making it possible for students to say that they have "access" to a computer lab. Students need to understand and utilize technology on a daily basis, both inside and outside of the classroom. As we move to Common Core and more student-centered learning, it is imperative that we embrace the world of technology and bring it into our classroom.
As an elementary technology teacher, I will attempt to share with you some of what my students do on a daily basis. I have to preface with the fact that I understand that my situation may be unique and nowhere near what yours is. I have state-of-the-art equipment, that many schools only dream of, and I understand this. But one of the points we frequently make to our staff and even our students--it's not about how many gadgets you have or how much money was spent. It's all about how you use what you have to make a memorable and important learning experience in your classroom.
I hope you will stick around and invite your friends. I'll do my best to share what I do with you and provide you resources to make it work for you. Welcome!
